Father's Day Gift Ideas!
Mother's Day tends to receive so much focused and sentimental attention. The children, who are still in school in May, bring home handmade cards and gifts for Mom. Father's Day falls at the beginning of summer vacation and the allure of the pool and fun in the sun, leaves less time for cool handmade gifts.
The US Census Department estimates in 2006 there were- 26.5 million fathers who were part of married-couple families with children younger than 18 and that there were 2.5 million single fathers. Dads, while maybe not the primary childcare provider, do contribute an awful lot to their children's growth and development. Many Dad's spend many an evening coaching little league or soccer, attending scouting camp outs and helping with homework.
The historical origins of Father's Day are a bit like that of Mother's Day, variations around a theme, but the sentiment is best summed up by Sonora Smart Dodd's quest in 1909 to have a day set aside to honor fathers, like her own who had recently died. Her father had been a single father, raising her and her siblings alone after the early death of her mother. She was advocating for a day in June, which was near he own father's birthday, as a day to honor not only his memory but the memory fathers throughout the United States.
So while summer is truly an exciting time of year, this year set aside some time to have the children draw a card or go shopping to pick out something very special for Dad, just to let him know that all the little things mean so very much.
While many moms long for some peace and quiet on Mother's Days, many Dads look forward to kicking back and enjoying some summer fun on Father's Day.
This year for Father's Day, consider planning a themed party. It can be multi generational event and is guaranteed to be fun for the entire family. The family can pack up and head out to the Baseball diamond or the Soccer field for a day on fun. If NASCAR is the big event for the family, consider taking in the race as a family. Lap after lap, the good times will keep on rolling.
Do the Dads in the family share a passion for golf. Organize a friendly family golf tournament for the golfers in the family, with a big meal afterwards to celebrate all the great moments, like when Uncle Bob sinks a great one - in the water hazard.
While the experience will be a great gift, consider a gift basket as an introduction to the event, like snacks for road or as a centerpiece or decoration for the after party. Add in some appropriate paper products, which match the theme and it will truly be a party and a Father's Day to remember!
